Ask boomers and they will tell you they are still young and in-the-know, even as they talk about seeing video replace film in TV newscasts. But ask their Gen X and Millennial colleagues and you may get a different view of boomers, from those younger generations that would be lost (figuratively and literally) without Google. The youngest baby boomers are pushing 60 and the oldest are in their mid-70s (baby boomers: born 1946-1964). What is being lost as these older professors retire…and what is being gained? The boomer generation of TV news professors was predominantly white and male. Younger faculty is starting to better reflect our society. Boomer generation BEA broadcast journalism faculty are invited to bring younger faculty to this frank look at what needs to stay, what needs to go, and what we can learn from each other as we face this generational shift in teaching broadcast journalism.
