Mediatized: Social Media influence on Society and Culture.

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This panel will present mediatization as a key concept, and as a theory of the influence social media exert on society and culture. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Snapchat allow users to create profiles, communicate with other uses, and create or maintain personal connections with others (Ellison, Steinfield, & Lampe, 2007). Though creating connections across the world may sound like an unambiguously positive use of technology, the internet—and social media specifically—has proven to be a double-edged sword for human interactions and relationships.
